Why passport details are required
Spain has strict public-security and anti-terrorism laws that require all accommodation providers to register guest identity details with the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
This applies to:
- Hotels
- Hostels
- Holiday lets / vacation rentals
- Guesthouses & apartments
So even though Fuerteventura has no tourist tax, passport registration is still mandatory.
What law requires this?
- Royal Decree 933/2021
- Enforced by the Ministerio del Interior
- Applies nationwide, including the Canary Islands
What information must be collected?
For each guest aged 14+:
- Full name (as per passport)
- Passport or ID number
- Nationality
- Date of birth
- Sex
- Date of arrival & departure
- Relationship to the booking holder
⚠️ Children under 14 are not exempt from staying, but their data is still often required depending on platform setup.
Where does the data go?
The data is sent to:
- SES Hospedajes (Sistema de Hospedajes)
- Used by:
- National Police
- Guardia Civil
- Immigration & border security
This is not optional and not local council related.
Why it’s stricter now
Since 2023–2024, enforcement has increased:
- Fines are now actively issued
- Digital submission is mandatory
- Platforms like Check-in Scan, Hospedajes, etc. are used
