Ravens & Chipmunks at Mirador del Risco de las Peñas

🏔️ Ravens & Chipmunks at Mirador del Risco de las Peñas

Our favourite place to meet Fuerteventura’s friendliest locals…

Perched high in the rugged mountains between Pájara and Ajuy, the Mirador del Risco de las Peñas is one of Fuerteventura’s most breathtaking viewpoints — and one of our absolute favourite places on the island.

From here, the island stretches out in every direction: golden valleys, black volcanic ridges, and the Atlantic shimmering on the horizon. But what makes this spot truly special is the wildlife that calls it home.

Here you can often hand-feed the magnificent Canarian ravens, who soar gracefully over the cliffs and sometimes land right beside you. They’re remarkably intelligent and gentle, happy to take a small treat from your hand while posing proudly for photos.

At your feet, the Barbary ground squirrels — affectionately known as chipmunks — scamper across the rocks, peeking out from behind stones and waiting patiently for a sunflower seed or two.

It’s an unforgettable experience — standing on top of the world, surrounded by nature, with ravens overhead and chipmunks at your feet.

💡 Top tip: Bring a few nuts or seeds and your camera — the ravens and chipmunks here are natural performers, and the views are some of the best on the island.

📍 How to get there:
• Around 45 minutes from Caleta de Fuste
• Follow signs towards Pájara, then continue along the winding road to Ajuy
• A small car park and viewpoint await at the top

🌄 A must-see stop during your stay at Sol Escape — where you can connect with the island’s true spirit and its most unforgettable residents.
